Medieval Armourer

I recently had the opportunity to spend a day with a modern day Armourer. Josh manufactures Medieval Knight’s armour and swords and he looks the part. This guy is over 2 meters tall, muscular and with long red hair. You can see by his hands that he works everyday with Iron.

A lot of the tools that Josh needs don’t exist anymore so he has to make his own and they are not small. He has to hammer huge pieces of metal and weld them together to form the fantastic patterns that we see on the swords. Don’t think only the Japanese can do this.

The day I spend with Josh, he made a throwing axe, as you can see its hot, dirty, hard work. Unfortunately I didn’t get to shoot pictures of Josh in his armour. But the good thing is it means I will have to spend another day with him.
